Storyline:

In London, the wealthy Margot Mary Wendice had a brief love affair with the American author Mark Halliday while her husband and professional tennis player Tony Wendice was on a tennis tour. Tony quits playing to devote himself to his wife and gets a regular job. She decides to give him a second chance for their marriage. When Mark comes from America to visit the couple, Margot tells him that she destroyed all his letters except one that was stolen. She was blackmailed afterwards, but she never found the stolen letter. Tony arrives home, claiming he has to work, and asks Margot to go to the theater with Mark. Meanwhile, Tony calls Captain Lesgate (aka Charles Alexander Swann who studied with him at university) and blackmails him into killing his wife so he can inherit her fortune.
