Plot / Storyline:

In feudal Japan, 12-year-old Kubo visits his ailing mother Sariatu in a mountain cave near a village. He makes his living by magically combining origami with the music of his shamisen to the people of the village, telling the story of his missing father, Hanzo, a samurai warrior. Kubo is never able to finish his story, as he does not know what happened to Hanzo and Sariatu cannot remember the ending due to his deteriorating mental state. Sariatu warns him not to stay outside after dark because his sisters, Karasu and Vashi, and his grandfather, Moon King (who took his eye as a child) will find him and take the remaining eye.
